BROMLEY'S poor run of form continued at the Dripping Pan on Wednesday evening when they were held by bottom of the table Lewes to a scoreless draw.

Lewes ended a run of six straight defeats but that run should have continued, as Bromley failed to take a number of chances which came their way, especially as the home side were under considerable pressure in the opening 45 minutes.

Harry Harding had a volley well saved by Lewes keeper Chris Winterton before Ryan Dolby had a shot from distance go over the bar.

Winterton then did exceptionally well to scramble Wes Daly’s shot around the post following a mistake by a Lewes defender a few minutes later.

The home keeper rescued his side again on 20 minutes by saving at the second attempt Jerrome Sobers’ well-struck shot from the edge of the area.

Lewes’ first attempt at goal came in the 30th minute when a free-kick was headed narrowly wide by Andy Pearson.

Bromley should have gone ahead on 38 minutes when Harding’s through ball picked out Leon McKenzie, only for the striker to pull his shot wide of the goal with only the keeper to beat.

But it was the hosts who might have gone in at half-time in the lead. Sobers, under no pressure, decided to play the ball across the face of his own goal but passed straight to George Barker, whose stinging shot was brilliantly beaten away at the foot of the post by Craig Holloway.

It was a different story in the second half as Lewes dominated proceedings and Bromley found it difficult to handle David Wheeler, who had come on as a half-time substitute.

Harding should have at least have made the keeper work on 72 minutes when a good passing interchange between Daly, Nicky Greene and McKenzie ended with Harding volleying over the bar from eight yards following McKenzie’s pinpoint cross.

Wheeler and fellow substitute Tom Murphy both had decent chances in the closing stages but were denied by Holloway as Lewes pressed hard for the breakthrough before Barker’s desperate lunge at the far post just failed to connect with Wheeler’s pass across goal.

With two minutes remaining, McKenzie’s cross eluded Winterton but substitute Warren McBean miskicked in front of an empty goal from six yards and Bromley had to be content with a share of the spoils.
