Whyteleafe 1 v 2 Bromley

Pre-season friendly

BROMLEY came back from the Surrey suburbs with a hard fought win over a solid Whyteleafe side from Ryman Division One.

Mark Goldberg's men put on a high quality first half display as they dominated possession and used the ball very well but they could not make it count as much as the boss would have liked.

In a 4-4-2 diamond formation the Lillywhites forced Leafe back to the edge of their box and eventually got the break-through on 15 minutes.

Mark Corneille and Sam wood combined to set up Adrian Stone who headed home his fourth pre-season strike.

Stone went close again soon after as Bromley looked for another goal but the home side's offside trap halted a number of promising moves and any balls which did get through were hacked clear.

Donal O'Sullivan and Tutu Henriques were in unbeatable form in the Lillywhites backline with Henriques in particular putting on a display worthy of the captain's armband.

Whyteleafe came back into things in the second half and they had Bromley defending for long spells before they got their deserved equaliser on 58 minutes through former Bromley favourite Marcelle Dennis.

This was the cue for Murray Jones to bring on three subs in Michael Power, Gary Drewett and Nathan Simpson.

Power was to make an almost immediate impact by putting Bromley back in front on 68 minutes when he converted a Kirk Watts cross from close range.

The Lillywhites had three more good chances to extend the lead - Drewett crossed for O'Sullivan who headed just over, Henriques did the same from a corner and Power shot narrowly wide across the face of goal.

The final whistle signalled a win for the Lillywhites who were missing Francis Duku, Junior Kadi, Tony Boot and Nic McDonnell who were all sitting in the stand.
