Cray Valley 1 v 2 Holmesdale
Kent County League Premier Division
HOLMESDALE league campaign's got underway with a convincing win away to Cray Valley.
With Holmesdale's manager Tony Beckenham bringing in six new summer signings one would think a bedding in period would be needed but it was not the case.
Holmesdale started the brightest with some early chances falling to Tom Creasey but he was unable to convert them.
Tony Wickham provided the opening for Holmesdale's first goal.
His cleaver free kick on the right-hand side fell to Nigel Johnston who controlled it 35 yards out on the left.
The stirker took the ball onto his knee then volleyed it over the keeper and onto the under side of the bar for a cracking goal.
On 40 minutes Creasey scored his first goal of the season headig home Steven O'Rourke's cross.
In the second half Holmesdale became complacent and Cray Valley worked their way back into contention.
However their goal did not come until the 87th minute via a well-taken 25 yard shot in the bottom left and it was too little, too late.
Holmesdale coach Tony Beckenham said: "With six new players coming in this year and going up to the premier division I'm very happy with the performance of my players.
"We looked the stronger side throughout the game and I'm very happy with the three points away from home."
