Cray Wanderers host Maidstone United in the 2nd qualifying round of the FA Trophy at Hayes Lane on Saturday (3pm).

In the previous round, Cray beat Wingate & Finchley 2-1 to set up an eagerly-awaited all-Kent clash with Maidstone.

The Wands have already beaten Maidstone once this season, a 2-1 win that sent the Stones to the bottom of the Ryman Premier League on 5 October.

Since then, the Stones have changed their management, drafting in the experienced duo of Andy Ford and Steve Butler to run the first team.

Cray will know to expect a tougher test on Saturday against a revitalised Maidstone whose first two League matches under Ford and Butler have brought a 1-1 draw at Wealdstone and a 2-1 win at Croydon Athletic.

Cray's preparation for Saturday's cup clash has also seen them play two away games, with mixed fortunes.

After a commendable 1-1 draw at second-placed Sutton United last Saturday, the Wands lost 3-2 at Billericay Town on Tuesday night. That result moved the Essex side up to fifth in the table, with Cray dropping to mid-table twelfth.

It was a nightmare first fifteen minutes for Cray after the game kicked off late at Billericay because of weather problems.

The much-travelled Bertie Brayley put the home side in front after 3 minutes, and Cray then lost both their strikers Leigh Bremner and Carl Gibbs through injury.

A disrupted Cray side went further behind when Junior Dadson netted on 26 minutes, but Chris Saunders reduced the arrears just before half time.

A disputed free-kick was headed in by Cedric Ngakem for Billericay on 55 minutes, and despite a 70th minute goal from Ross Lover, the Wands couldn't get back on terms despite playing some good passing football.

Cray manager Ian Jenkins will have to wait for news on his injured players before he can select his starting eleven against Maidstone on Saturday.

Cray's leading scorer Laurent Hamici has now completed his three-match ban.
