BROMLEY’S dismal form since the turn of the year continued at the Dripping Pan on Monday afternoon when relegation-threatened Lewes won far more easily than the score suggests.

In what was a very poor game, Bromley’s makeshift side lacked cohesion and any enthusiasm, continually passing to the opposition and failing to do the simple basic tasks.

The only goal came with the home side’s first attack on nine minutes when Aaron Fray allowed on-loan winger Steve Brinkhurst acres of space down the left.

His cross picked Ryan Dolby, who was facing his own goal and under pressure from David Wheeler, and the Bromley man fired past keeper Wesley Foderingham for an own goal.

Lewes should have gone further ahead on 20 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Wes Daly had tripped Jack Walder, but Joe Keehan’s weakly struck spot kick was easily saved by Foderingham.

Bromley had a couple of half chances when Steve Ferguson’s shot was deflected for a corner and Ryan Hall should have done better when he wildly fired over with only keeper Rikky Banks to beat.

As the half-time whistle approached, Chris Breach fired wide through a crowd of players following a goalmouth scramble.

The second period was no better than the first 45 minutes and straight from the restart Walder twice went close before Robert Gradwell found himself clear but he shot wide.

Bromley’s keeper kept his side in the game with a point blank save at the near post from Walder and Keehan was on the end of a 64th minute right wing cross which came back off the upright.

Hall was unlucky one minute later when his shot was tipped behind by Banks after being set up by Marcus Cassius and Lewes’s keeper spilled a weak header from Cassius 10 minutes later before Anthony Barness cleared off the line.

But Lewes finished the stronger and Keehan’s shot on the turn was brilliantly saved by Foderingham at full stretch.

As the game moved into injury time, Gradwell and Keehan both saw their efforts blocked by defenders after the Bromley defence was once again caught at sixes and sevens.
