West Kent Challenge Shield Final
ORPINGTON lifted the West Kent Challenge Shield for the first time despite having to play 40 minutes with only nine players against Fleetdown United.
The game seemed to be heading for a goalless first-half when a sudden burst of goals brought it alive.
Orpington struck first when George Belchamber curled a free-kick round the wall and into the net off the inside of the post.
Before Orpington could finish celebrating, Fleetdown equalised however, Gary Gorman restored Orpington's advantage when he struck a 30-yard shot low into the Fleetdown net.
Mid-way through the second-half Fleetdown again equalised, this time from a free-kick.
With 10 minutes of normal time remaining Orpington had two players sent-off. The first was for a second booking and the other for raising his arms in the resulting melee. However, they managed to survive to force extra-time.
The Os looked the better of the two sides in extra-time and were unlucky not take the lead when Scott Middlewood's effort came back off the upright.
The match went to penalties and it was Orpington who held their nerve to win 4-3.
