Wealdstone 1 v 2 Bromley

Ryman League Premier Division

THE second George Wakeling era at Bromley came to an end in the shabby surroundings of Wealdstone's rented home at Northwood FC, writes Patrick Harris.

Happily it finished with a hard-earned win for the side which had played in a cup final only 36 hours earlier.

Andy Walker carried on his fine cup winning form with a good early save before The Ravens took the lead on 13 minutes, Adrian Stone coolly lobbing the ball over Lee Carroll into the corner of the net from 10 yards.

Simon Mitchell nearly made it two but for a fine saving tackle from Lee Chappell as he was about to shoot.

After a spell on top Bromley appeared to suffer from cup final fatigue as John Christian fired just wide and Graeme Montgomery shot over.

The pressure finally told on 35 minutes when Ben Alexander equalised, finishing off a good move just inside the box.

Montgomery went close to putting The Stones in front before the break while Sam Wood made a great run only for his shot to be blocked on the line.

Donal O'Sullivan was replaced by Barry Gardner for the second half with Tutu Henriques moving to centre back.

Bromley went close trough Danny Carroll, Mitchell and Des Boateng while Walker kept Wealdstone out making two good saves and seeing another come back off the post.

The Ravens took the lead again on 64 minutes when Stone hit a well-placed volley from the edge of the box past a stranded Carroll.

Youth products Adam Greenway and Tytus Murphy came on to provide extra legs in midfield, while Gardner did brilliantly to clear a Stone's header off the line from a corner.

Wood, Stone and Mitchell combined well but Greenway could not keep his shot down to finish the move.

Wealdstone had a final spell of pressure with Dave Ryan missing two good chances but Bromley rode their luck.

They finished the season with a win for George Wakeling, Billy Smith and Frank Coles, at the same time securing a top half finish along with winning the Kent Senior Cup.
