S Green 1 v 1 Beckenham Kent League Cup

THE Kent League Cup got under way instyle with a game which fizzed and buzzed right from the kick off all the way through to its dramatic finale.

It was appropriate Green's last gasp hero was Glen McTaggart as the centre forward has walked off at half time puzzled as to how he had not scored four already.

In a crazy first half Green managed a string of near misses and were denied superbly by Beckenham's 17-year-old debutant keeper Tim Roberts.

As if not to be outdone by his opposite number Green's keeper Gary Arterton played possibly his best 45 minutes of football all season.

He denied Beckenham's Carlton Price, Joshua Smith, Jamie Cheeseman and Ellis Green but could do nothing about Cedric Meeko's openeron 11 minutes when he latched on a sliced clearance and buried the ball past Arterton.

A quick flurry of four corners from Robert Browning provided a series of great chances, none more so than for Mark Penny who saw his flashing header skim the cross bar.

Cheeseman almost extended the visitor's lead but his shot hit the post.

Arterton's second-half saves were supported by some vital blocks by defenders while Roberts at the other end denied Green's strikers.

But as the watch ticked onto 90 minutes the valiant young keeper was denied a debut clean sheet as McTaggart claimed the goal he, and Green, so richly deserved.

Swooping onto Ali Kyzeu's casual square pass 25 yards out he ran onto to goal and tucked the ball underneath Roberts and inside the right-hand post to the delight of the home crowd.
