Welling United survived a late scare at the weekend when, despite conceding a 90th minute goal, they booked their place in the second round of the FA Trophy.

Having seen off Molesey 2-1 on a difficult playing surface last Saturday, thanks largely to a two-goal performance from in-form striker Paul Booth, Wings were rewarded with a home tie against either Hampton and Richmond or Sutton United, due to be played on November 27.

They will be hoping to play on a better pitch in that game, as the conditions at Molesey's ground were not particularly conducive to free-flowing football.

In spite of this, midway through the first period Wings, with a largely settled side, did carve out a decent chance for Paul Booth, but the hitman's effort went narrowly wide of the upright.

But on 40 minutes the same player made amends when he rose above the Molesey defence and headed home George Lay's cross to give his side a lead their possession had merited.

Wings carried their early momentum into the second period, and almost went two goals ahead first through Tommy Tyne, and then later through that man Booth, who rattled the crossbar with a fiercely-struck shot.

Molesey's goalkeeper Luke Garrard was keeping his side in the tie.

However, his one-man resistance was finally broked seven minutes from time, when Booth effectively wrapped up the tie with his and Welling's second goal of the game.

This time it was a drive from just outside the box, but again he gave Garrard no chance.

Molesey's Phil Caughter did claim a consolation goal for the home side in the game's dying embers, but the Park View Road club rode out the ensuing storm to ensure their passage into the next round of the cup.

This Saturday Welling return to Conference South action when they entertain Sutton United. Kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.
