THIS winter’s poor weather decimated the Gravesend League programme again last weekend, with only two games surviving the torrential rain.

Fixtures secretary Peter Danzey has seen 75 games lost to the weather already and faces a major headache getting the matches back on between now and the end of the campaign.

He said: “Undoubtedly there will have to be some double fixtures, especially in the Premier Division, and some midweek games later in the season.

“The challenge now is to ensure cup games go ahead in order to play our cup finals on the scheduled dates.

“My colleagues in other leagues with more teams in must have real problems.”

One of the two fixtures to survive last weekend saw Bean host Stone C & I in the semi-final of the Mallinson Cup.

Stone opened the scoring with a fine volley by Nick Powell, but Bean fought back before the interval and were back on terms thanks to Ben Morris.

Gary Norman restored Stone’s advantage after the break but Bean fought back again through Chris Golden to make it 2-2.

Golden scored his second late on and Bean’s third to seal a dramatic 3-2 victory and an April 17 final date at Fleet Leisure against either Lullingstone Castle or Viewpoint.

Division Two had AZ 82 at home to the undefeated Ash Green at Hall Place and AZ were quickly into a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Green and Billy French.

Ash Green pulled one back before half-time with a fine effort from Paul Bradbury, but AZ went further ahead in the second half with Green and French making it 4-1. Paul Bradbury reduced the arrears for Ash Green, but then late in the game Green completed his hat-trick to wrap up a 5-2 triumph.

The result was revenge for an earlier game where Ash beat AZ by 7-1.

AZ go top of the Division Two on goal difference over the Kent Celts, while Ash Green drop down to third.
