BROMLEY came back from 3-0 down on Tuesday evening to record a 3-3 draw at Weston-super-Mare, scoring three goals in the final 17 minutes.

On a very heavy pitch, Bromley put in another poor performance against their opponents, who were second from bottom in the table going into the match.

It was not until the 73rd minute the Lillies realised it was not a training stint and they just might be able to salvage something from the game.

Weston-super-Mare took an early lead in the fourth minute when a long cross to the far post was not defended and Daniel Burnell had the simplest task to prod a shot over the line from four yards.

But wasteful Bromley had their chances to level but they failed to test home keeper Kevin Sawyer. Wes Daly shot wide and Luke I’Anson fired over from good positions, while at the other end Jermaine Clarke and Burnell were running the Bromley defence ragged, forcing Gareth Williams to save well from both players.

Warren McBean was slow to react to Richard Butler’s through ball and then the striker’s shot from a narrow angle was pushed onto the junction of the post and crossbar by Sawyer.

As the interval loomed, Clarke outpaced Rob Gillman and his right foot shot ricocheted off Williams’ back to Clarke, who then fired wide, before Callum Hart sent a rasping shot over the bar from the edge of the area.

Bromley were unlucky not to have levelled the scores two minutes into the second period. A deep free-kick from Ashley Carew was retrieved on the byline by I’Anson who headed back across goal, where McBean headed for the top corner.

But Sawyer just managed to get his fingertips to the ball underneath the crossbar to push the header onto the inside of the upright and away to safety.

Sawyer smothered McBean’s attempt on 58 minutes and, two minutes later, Butler twisted his way past a couple of defenders before shooting straight at the keeper.

Williams gifted the hosts a second goal on 61 minutes when Richard Evans broke clear to send in a low shot from just outside the area, which the keeper allowed to trickle under his body and into the net.

The Bromley stopper denied Clarke again midway through the half before Weston increased their lead in the 70th minute. A long clearance from Sawyer saw Tutu Henriques misjudge the bounce of the ball and Burnell raced on to crash a looping shot over Williams from fully 35 yards. This goal just about summed up Bromley’s performance so far as they looked down and out, but a revival came almost immediately as Carew was upended in the box by Darren Mullings in the 73rd minute and he got up to reduce the arrears.

Bromley scored again three minutes later when Hall’s fierce cross-shot was only parried by Sawyer and McBean converted from close range.

And with five minutes remaining, the comeback was complete as Mark Corneille’s long cross was touched on by Butler to Hall, whose first time volley took a wicked deflection off defender Ben Cleverly to wrong-foot Sawyer for the equaliser.

Both teams could have taken maximum points in the closing stages.

Clarke fired past the post from close range, I’Anson’s header was saved by Sawyer from Steve Ferguson’s pinpoint cross before Hall’s dipping shot shaved the bar in injury time.
