BROMLEY returned home from Somerset with a hard-earned, if rather fortunate, point following a scoreless draw at Bath City on Saturday.

This was Bromley’s first goalless game in the league since being promoted in the summer of 2007.

With just four places separating the two sides in the table, both cancelled each other out.

But it was the hosts who just about edged the first half and then went on to completely over run Bromley in the second period, but neither side could make the vital breakthrough.

The visitors were first to threaten in the fifth minute when Ashley Carew fired wildly over from a poor defensive clearance after a long throw in by Luke I’Anson.

Warren McBean carved out a chance for himself 13 minutes later but keeper Ryan Robinson was quickly out to parry the Bromley striker’s intended chip.

Sandwiched in between, Mike Perrott tried to emulate McBean but Bromley’s goalkeeper Gareth I Williams was equal to the task and held the ball underneath the crossbar.

Nicky Greene twice volleyed goal-wards but the two attempts were high and wide respectively, while sandwiched in between Darren Edwards tried his luck from 20 yards but nearly hit the corner flag with his misplaced effort.

Sido Jombati did enough to divert another McBean effort into the arms of Robinson and Perrott was denied by G. I. Williams, directing his shot straight into the keeper’s midriff as Bath finished the half strongly.

The home side upped the tempo in the second period but lacked the cutting edge when in front of goal, as they penned Bromley back in their own half for long periods, creating many half chances in the process.

McBean limped off on 63 minutes with ligament trouble and is doubtful for the FA Cup tie against Colchester, while Jacob Erskine followed him a few minutes later to be replaced by Marcus Cassius and Gareth A Williams respectively.

It was Cassius, however, who should have given Bromley the lead on 77 minutes when he broke from the halfway line, only to show too much of the ball when about to shoot and Robinson hacked it away from his feet.

In the end, Bromley had keeper Gareth I Williams to thank for gaining a point.

He made a great reflex save on 87 minutes to keep out Perrott’s downward header and, two minutes later, the custodian reacted quickly to tip over the crossbar with a breaktaking point-blank save from Stuart Douglas’s six yard header.

The pressure continued and two minutes into injury time Gareth I Williams produced another full length save to keep out Adam Connolly’s strong header from Richard Evan’s corner kick to earn his side a share of the spoils.
