WELLING manager Andy Ford was happy with his side’s 1-1 draw at Staines on Saturday as the Wings continue to battle a crippling injury crisis.

The boss also confirmed he is looking to bring in a new signing before this weekend’s home meeting with Braintree because of the number of players currently on the treatment table.

He said: “With so many players out, to pick up any points is a positive and when people come back fit, we will be stronger.

“The first half at Staines wasn’t particularly good but you have to bear in mind we’ve got a lot of injuries.

“It's the worst injury crisis we've had.”

After conceding within five minutes, Welling were under siege at times during the first half and had goalkeeper Charlie Mitten to thank for keeping them in the match. But the Wings responded with a strong second half performance and equalised after an hour through Jake Hobbs.

Ford added: “It was a good overall team performance in the second half.

“I think the first half was theirs and the second half was ours.

“We nearly nicked it in the end but they could have been quite a few ahead at half-time, so overall it was about right.

“Charlie kept us in the game but that’s what you’ve got keepers for.”

On the possiblity of bringing in a fresh face, Ford admitted he is currently trying to conclude one deal.

“There might be one coming in, but we won't know that until the weekend or possiblity tomorrow,” he said.

Ford is also hopeful at least one of the injured players could be back in time to face Braintree on Saturday.

“We'll still have about five out, but one or two should be back for the weekend with a bit of luck.”
