WHEN Andy Ford released Omari Coleman from Welling United, the last thing he expected was the player to score two goals to sink his reconstructed side.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened at the weekend.

Ford took his side to Bromley, who pounced for Coleman's signature as soon as he was released last week, and was forced to look on as the former Wings player left Welling in deeper relegation trouble.

He admitted: "Maybe it was a mistake letting Omari go, but he wasn't really doing it for Welling.

"When you play against your old club you get an additional motivation to put in a top performance.

"We will have to see how he does in future performances for Bromley and see if they offer him a long-term contract."

Ford also commented on the changes he is making to the squad and revealed there are likely to be more new faces introduced to Park View Road.

He revealed: "We're looking at bringing in a keeper to strengthen the team.

"We had our keeper Jamie Turner sent off a couple of weeks ago against Hampton & Richmond, so he'll be serving a three-match suspension which isn't helping us.

"Elliot Bent has also picked up a knee injury and he is unlikely to feature again this season."

Welling have not won at home since beating Bromley 3-1 in November and Ford admits this is a major concern for the struggling team.

He said: "We need to start winning our home games and build up some confidence.

"Our ground needs to become a fortress, not a place teams come to and expect to leave with all three points.

"There's no excuses for losing your home games and this is why Phil Handford and I are changing the team around.

"I took on the job for a reason and I can change things around and make sure we avoid the drop."

The Wings entertain Weston-super-Mare on Saturday and the result could prove pivotal in the race to avoid relegation with Ford confident his team can gain a positive result.

He said: "We beat them 3-0 last month, but we can't just presume we'll beat them again.

"The players need to deliver a confident, strong, attacking performance to ensure a win and without Turner in goal, it's vital we find a replacement.

"I need to find a regular starting XI and once a settled side is established, the wins should come hand in hand."
