Bromley 2-0 Welling United

OMARI Coleman, released by Welling United earlier in the week, fired Bromley to victory on his debut against his former club at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

On a very blustery day and on an awful pitch, good football was almost impossible.

Welling were the first to show attacking intent and created the early opportunities. The first chance of the match came when, following a Bobby Bowry foul, Richard Carpenter's free-kick looked goalbound but was deflected wide for a corner.

It was against the run of play when Bromley went ahead and it came from a mistake typical of those Welling have been making all season.

A needless back pass by Carpenter did not have the legs to reach Jamie Turner and Coleman, who would have been aware of how often Welling players take the easy option, was quickly on hand to intercept.

His finish was clinical and gave Turner no chance.

Coleman thought he had doubled the lead two minutes later when a long range Sam Wood shot drew a save from Turner and Coleman netted from the rebound. Unfortunately for him, the assistant referee deemed him to be offside and his celebrations were brought to an early halt.

Danny Hockton fired over when well placed before the visitors came back into the game and Welling went close again when Sam Gargan headed just wide from Carpenter's cross.

Four minutes into the second half, a route one pass by Wood allowed Coleman to double the lead with his second goal.

It was another emphatic finish which gave Turner no chance.

From this point onwards, Welling enjoyed the majority of play but rarely troubled goalkeeper Gareth Williams.

He dealt with all the crosses comfortably, despite the swirling wind, and made an excellent save from Gargan on the hour mark.

Referee Mr Berry, whose strange decisions baffled both clubs, failed to notice Simon Glover pull back Orlando Smith in the Bromley penalty area, despite having his arm right around the Welling striker's waist.

The assistant referee, just a few yards away, also missed the clear penalty offence.

Bromley's defence held firm for the remainder of the match, allowing the hosts to continue their push for a play-off place while plunging Welling nearer to the dreaded relegation spots.
