Needing a win to keep their play-off dreams alive, Welling slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Bath City.

On Saturday, they were outstanding against Weston-super-Mare but they couldn't replicate the performance and Bath were worthy winners.

Jamie Philpot chanced his arm in the first minute but he could not get any power on it and Luke Southwood saved easily.

Miles Welch-Hayes then went on a run for Bath and went for a low shot from a tight angle that Bailey Vose saved with comfort. A better option might have been a pull back.

Welch-Hayes had Bath's next chance when he met Matt Richards' corner but he didn't get enough on it and skimmed his header wide.

Andy Watkins then cut in and shot wide of the far post as Bath continued to probe for the opening.

One more chance came and went but Coombes' header from Philpot's cross was claimed by King at the near post.

After a clash of heads, Connor Dymond had to leave the pitch to be patched up and Welling had to play with ten for five minutes but Bath were unable to take advantage.

Just before the break, Bath had one more chance when Dan Ball headed towards goal from a corner but Philpot blocked on the line and cleared.

At the interval, Welling made a double change bringing on Joe Healy and Adam Coombes for Dymond and Jack Jebb. Bath also made a change replacing Opi Edwards with Nat Jarvis.

Three minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken when Tom Smith led a break before feeding Antoine Semenyo who buried in the bottom corner.

Looking for a quick response, Bradley Goldberg brought a long ball down well but then fired well over with a very ambitious effort from far out.

Centre back Jack Batten then had his heart in his mouth as he headed Philpot's cross back towards his own goal but it floated just over.

Then a great move involving Philpot and Coombes ended with Healy coming in late but side-footing wide.

Failure to get the equaliser cost Welling when they were caught again on the break. James Morton ran at a retreating defence before playing in Smith who finished clinically.

Healy was unable to stab home at the end of a goal-mouth scramble before Semenyo fired well over for Bath.

Coombes fired an acrobatic effort over but Bath missed another great chance on the break when Welch-Hayes played in Smith but he fired wide of the far post.

Ryan Hall found Coombes with a good ball that the striker brought down brilliantly before spinning but firing straight at Southwood.

As the game came to a close, Vose was called upon to make an excellent save from Smith but it only served to keep the score down as Welling's play off hopes were ended.
