In a game of few opportunities, Welling United and Hemel Hempstead Town had to settle for a draw in their efforts to win a place in the play-offs.

Welling almost had an early fillip when a Connor Dymond free kick found Jamie Coyle whose header was tipped onto the post back onto keeper Laurie Walker and out.

After that Hemel enjoyed a good spell but didn't create too much until Spencer McCall wriggled his way through to unleash a low drive that Bailey Vose claimed with ease.

Another Hemel attack saw David Moyo burst through but Coyle got round quickly to block at the expense of a corner.

Ryan Hall sent in a free kick from the right for Welling but Walker claimed comfortably then Joe Howe over-hit a punt forward for Vose to catch under the bar.

Karl Oliyide hit a hopeful shot from out wide that went well wide before the game got a bit feisty.

Kyle Connolly was cautioned for hoofing the ball away long after the whistle had gone before Jordan Parkes was lucky to escape with a yellow card for a disgusting challenge on Dymond avenging an earlier foul on him.

As tempers continued to flare Matt Saunders became the third Hemel player booked for a cynical challenge on the half way line.

It was almost a relief when the half time whistle but Dymond had to e held back as he reacted to continued abuse from the Hemel bench.

Immediately after the break Coyle worked some space for himself from a free kick but his shot was deflected wide for Welling's first corner. The ball in was half cleared as far as Hall

Once again Welling's corner, this time taken by Hall, was only half cleared but Dymond was unable to hit the target with his first time effort.

Joe Healy sent a long ball over the defence and Jamie Philpot brought it down before sending a fierce effort over the bar.

Another quick move threatened the Hemel goal when Dymond found Hall out wide but Bradley Goldberg put his low cross over. Even if it had gone in it wouldn't have counted as he had made his move just too soon.

By this stage Welling were enjoying the better of things and Hall had another drive deflected wide for a corner.

Parkes drove wide before Welling finally found the net in the closing minutes but it was all to no avail. Two substitutes, Christian Nanetti and Tom Bradbrook combined to send the ball goal-bound but when Philpot bundled it over, the flag was already up for offside.

Oliyide sent a shot well wide before another Connolly foul in the closing minutes resulted in a second yellow and a dismissal for the Hemel player.

There was no real time for Welling to take advantage and the teams had to settle for a point apiece.
