Bromley boss Neil Smith has heaped praise on his squad for overcoming challenging trips away from home after his side’s 3-0 derby win over Sutton United.

The Ravens had three consecutive away trips before they drew 1-1 with Wrexham at home on Good Friday and seeing out the game with 10 men following the dismissal of defender Roger Johnson.

However, goals from Brandon Hanlan, Adam Mekki, and substitute Josh Rees dispatched the promotion-chasing U’s on Easter Monday as Bromley enter their final seven Vanarama National League games.

Smith told News Shopper: “To get yourself up from coming back from Gateshead on the Saturday, to then having a weekend off, and then you’re going back up to play Hartlepool.

“The mental strength of the players has been phenomenal but it’s not just that, it’s the players who have come in after waiting for their chance. They’re actually keeping players like Louis Dennis out today and Josh Rees, who have been absolutely phenomenal this season.

“While there’s that strength in depth, you just hope that they can just give that last push, that last shift, and all we wanted to do this season was to better our points tally and placing from last year.

“We’re still 10th, that’s where we finished off, so with six games to go we’ve still got a chance of that and we’ll be doing our utmost to try and do that.”

The win leaves Bromley six points off sixth-placed AFC Fylde, who have 65 points to their 59, with two games in hand.

Bromley will entertain FA Trophy semi-finalists Gateshead this weekend before visting both Chester and Woking on two consecutive away trips.

But Smith is unfazed by the prospect of reaching the play-offs as he is delighted with how players in his team have stepped up of late, forcing regulars out of the starting 11.

He added: “There’s no pressure on us. There are clubs bigger clubs up there where the pressure is on them and even below us.

“We’ve got a tight squad, we haven’t got many players – I think we’ve got 18 – and if I have a couple of injuries then I’m down to my bare bones. But at the moment, whenever I’ve needed to call upon someone they’ve come in and done a job.

“As I said, if Louis Dennis is sitting as a sub, that’s saying something about the person that is in front of him because he has been outstanding this season.”

The Ravens will travel to Maidenhead in their final National League game this season, on April 28, before travelling to Wembley for their date with Brackley Town in this year’s FA Trophy final on May 20.
