Not for the first time this season, Welling United rebounded from going behind to winning comfortably.

Manager Jamie Coyle was forced into making one change from the team that won at Bognor in midweek with Archie Johnson replacing Ben Jefford who was forced to drop out with a tight hamstring.

In the opening attack of the match, Hungerford goalkeeper Oliver Davies was almost embarrassed by a Joe Healy cross that floated just beyond the far post.

However, it was the hosts that went ahead with a goal that would have disappointed Welling manager Jamie Coyle. A standard near post corner was met by a header from Ian Herring that gave goalkeeper Bailey Vose no chance.

Having taken the lead, Hungerford were happy to play on the back foot but Welling struggled to create clear cut chances. The nearest they came in the first twenty minutes was when Callum Driver slanted over a free kick that Coyle headed back across the edge of the area to Jack Jebb but his fierce volley flew just over.

After that, it was the turn of the hosts to have a good spell. A half clearance fell to Rhys Tyler but his shot went well wide.

Louis Soares then shot well over from outside the area before Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist had a shot that Vose was happy to save without too much distress.

Adam Coombes had a half chance for Welling with a diving header from Jebb's cross but he couldn't get a clean connection and it went wide.

Herring was lucky to escape a caution for a theatrical tumble in the Welling area before he almost replicated his earlier feat when meeting a near post corner, albeit from the other side, but his flick was saved by Vose.

Richie Whittingham tried an ambitious effort from thirty five yards but it rolled harmlessly wide.

On thirty five minutes Welling levelled. Jebb sent Jamie Philpot away and his delightful first time lob from thirty yards left Davies grasping at fresh air.

Three hacks at Philpot earned Herring a yellow card which was probably correct as team-mates had got back to cover. Coombes took the free kick but Davies made an excellent diving save.

Whittingham had one last effort before the half-time break but blasted over from the edge of the box.

Immediately after the break Coombes had a low shot saved when Philpot's cross was only half cleared. Welling weren't to be denied much longer and went ahead from their next attack. Olumide Durojaiye picked out Coombes with a perfect cross and the Welling striker headed a powerful effort that went in via the post and goalkeeper.

Soares looked for an immediate leveller but Johnson got back to clear off the line.

That miss proved vital as Welling then took over and the came close to extending their lead when a spectacular Coombes overhead scissors kick crashed back off the bar.

Jebb delivered a free kick that Bradley Goldberg controlled well and spun before shooting over.

Welling did not have to wait long for a third goal, however. A corner was half cleared and as Coyle made a retreat it fell to him and he arrowed it into the bottom corner from twenty yards.

Once more Philpot was in the thick of the action with another excellent cross that gave Goldberg an opening but he could only shoot straight at Davies.

More creative Welling football followed and the excellent Jebb sent Coombes away down the left wing. He cut in before his fierce effort whistled just past the post.

Again, a Philpot crossed but again Goldberg was unable to finish before Coombes tried his luck again with a shot on the turn that was saved at the cost of a corner. Jebb sent over another quality delivery that picked out Philpot and his unchallenged header found the top corner.

Nicholas Bignall was unable to finish from Whittingham's cross in a rare Hungerford attack but Welling were soon on the attack once more. Goldberg brought down another excellent Philpot cross but saw his low shot knocked out by the legs of Davies.

Half chances fell to Philpot for Welling and Soares for Hungerford but there was no further goal-scoring and Welling can now prepare for the Easter weekend in fine fettle.
