River Allen's injury time Truro City winner broke Welling United's hearts at Treyew Road on Saturday.

Jamie Coyle's new look side more than deserved a point after coming back from two down but Allen's late cross caught in the wind and went in off the far upright.

Only Chris Lewington was in the Welling line up that finished last season although seven of the other ten were back having previously played for the club.

They could have hardly got off to a worse start. Just ten minutes had elapsed when Aaron Lamont danced his way through some half hearted challenges before firing in a shot that was deflected beyond Lewington.

Christian Nanetti lost his marker and fired in a fierce first time shot that Tom McHale did well to hold in the Truro goal as Welling looked for a quick response.

Nanetti caused further problems when he went on a good run and his low cross was only cleared out as far as Joe Healy, but his powerful drive from outside the area flew the wrong side of the post with McHale beaten.

Niall Thompson collected a high long ball forward and was given time to bring it down. As defenders backed off, he realised that he was being allowed a shooting chance but scuffed it wide of the far post.

Lamont fired in a low shot that bobbled in front of Lewington but he was ale to push it round for a corner. A poor delivery gave Welling the chance to break but a defender did well to get back and block Healy's shot.

Ben Jefford then slung over a cross that held up in the wind but McHale was able to get back and claim it under the crossbar.

Twice in quick succession, Tom Bradbrook and Bradley Goldberg were unable to control long balls forward due to them being shoved in the back but referee Tom Reeves showed no interest in offering protection to the Welling strikers.

On forty five minutes, Truro went two up. Having not learned their lesson Welling again allowed the short Thompson time to bring down a long ball unchallenged. This time he found River Allen whose brilliant first time pass split the defence allowing Cody Cooke to get in on goal and fire home.

Still before half time Lamont had a shooting opportunity but fired over.

At the break, Coyle made a change taking off Toby Ajala and replacing him with Olumide Durojaiye allowing Connor Dymond to take up a more attacking role. The changes appeared to make a difference as Welling took control in the second period.

Goldberg fired in a shot that Bradbrook diverted and McHale made a fantastic point blank save.

His respite did not last long as Welling dragged themselves back into the game five minutes into the second period. Nanetti took a corner and Coyle rose to head home.

Allen fired a free kick wide for the hosts before Welling drew level.

Once more it was a Nanetti/Coyle combination as the wide man's deep free kick found Coyle unchallenged and the player manager's header was nodded accurately inside the far post.

Alfie Pavey came on for Bradbrook as Welling looked to find a winner and his aerial power presented a real threat and one header went just wide despite him being under pressure.

Ian Gayle almost gave Welling a late lead but his header from Dymond's corner went just over much to his anguish.

It looked as though the honours would be shared until Truro claimed the points with their late fluke goal.

Coyle will need to pick up his charges quickly as the entertain Chelmsford City at Park View Road on Tuesday at 19:45.
