Cray Wanderers pre-season campaign continued with two more victories against sides from Kent with the new league season less than three weeks away.

On Saturday, 22nd July the Wands travelled to Bearsted and came away with a well-earned 3-1 victory.  On a wet afternoon, the home side had the better of the early exchanges and Nick Blue did well to push a shot from twenty five yards on to the crossbar and over for a corner.

Cray took the lead in the 33rd minute with a fine individual goal from Luke Medley.  Cray took the game by the scruff of the neck early in the second half and went two up in the 48th minute when Lea Dawson pounced to head home from close range from a corner.  Four minutes later, Medley scored his second with a cool finish from Ken Charles’ pass.

Bearsted pulled a goal back with fifteen minutes to go but Cray had done enough to win the game.

On Tuesday, 25th July, Cray made the short trip to Park View Road to face Erith and Belvedere.  Cray were made to work hard on a thankfully much brighter evening and won the game 2-0 with two goals in the last seventeen minutes.

Against a resolute Dere’s side Cray came closest to scoring in the first half in the opening minute when Dean Carpenter crashed a shot from 30 yards against the crossbar.

In the second half, Dawson and Anthony Adesite came close to scoring before the Wands took the lead in the 73rd minute.  Following great work down the right by Mitchell Nelson the ball was played across to Karl Dent who hit a first time shot high into the roof of the net.

The scoring was completed five minutes from time when Freddie Parker set up James Duckworth who in acres of space fired a tremendous shot which flashed past the keeper at the near post.

Cray have three more pre-season games left including a local derby against Glebe FC on Friday evening (7.45).

A new fixture has been arranged for Wednesday, 2nd August when Cray will be at home to Dorking Wanderers.  Kick off at Hayes Lane is 7.45pm.

They finish off pre-season with a trip to Surrey to face Merstham on Saturday, 5th August, 3pm.
