Adam Coombes stunned former club Bromley with an F.A. Trophy winner for Welling United.

Despite their lower division status, the Wings were good value for their victory which puts them into Monday's last sixteen draw.

When the hosts went ahead in the sixth minute it looked like it would be plain sailing for them. Welling conceded a needless free kick which Dan Johnson swung into the penalty area. Adam Cunnington's flick on fooled everyone other than Jack Holland who had the presence of mind to attempt a back flick that shot into the bottom corner.

Looking for a quick response, Welling won a corner but Coombes' flick from Sam Hatton's near post corner did not have the pace to worry Alan Julian.

Coombes then tried his luck with a drive from 25 yards that Julian tipped over acrobatically.

Chris Lewington, Welling's goalkeeper, came out for a ball that he was never going to make and Blair Turgott got beyond him wide on the right. Although his shot held up in the boggy penalty area it came back to him. With Lewington still struggling to get back, Turgott crossed first time and Louis Dennis then had the ball in the net but Bradley Goldberg's touch caused him to be offside.

Another clever bit of skill by Coombes almost put him in again but Holland made a great last ditch challenge at the cost of a corner.

Christian Nanetti then fired hide and wide after initiating the move by sending Hatton away down the wing.

Seven minutes before the break, Welling levelled in slightly fortuitous fashion. Danny Waldren slung in a dangerous free kick and although Harry Crawford could not quite reach it, his presence was enough to put off Bromley goalkeeper Alan Julian and it sneaked inside the far post.

Turgott had a great opportunity to restore Bromley's lead just before the break when one on one with Lewington but the Wings' custodian stayed on his feet to make a fine save.

That proved to be his only real save as Welling's Hatton and Waldren dominated the midfield in the second half.

Hatton had a shot deflected wide for a corner then Julian had to concede another corner when saving from Crawford. Hatton then delivered well but Crawford was unable to direct his header at the goal.

Sean Francis, one of four former Bromley players in the Welling starting line up, tried his luck from distance but Julian made the save.

Cunnington clipped in a clever cross for Bromley and it was half cleared as far as Lee Minshull but his drive from twenty yards flew well over.

Matt Fish took a free kick from the right wing but Francis was only able to deflect his header wide of the far post.

Danger man Turgott worked his way into the area and was about to pull the trigger but Hatton showed his defensive qualities with a tackle that was timed to perfection.

Again, Turgott looked the most likely to score for the Ravens but his effort flew well wide before Welling scored the winner with eight minutes remaining.

Rather like when Welling conceded early on, Bromley gave away a needless free kick. Coombes stepped up and smashed a free kick that took a slight deflection before flying into the net.

At the other end, Bromley had one last chance when they won a free kick but Turgott blasted straight into the wall and with that their F.A. Trophy campaign finished.
