Cray Wanderers are back in league action after a short break as they entertain East Grinstead Town on Saturday.  Kick off at Hayes Lane is 3pm.

It seems an eternity ago since the first team last played following the eerie, hazy pitch at Herne Bay forced the abandonment after 13 minutes.  With South Park’s continued involvement in the FA Trophy and Corinthian Casuals League Cup commitments the Wands have been inactive since December 6th.  They will be looking to maintain a decent run of six games unbeaten in order to keep with the playoff chasing teams. The Wands are eighth in the table and six points behind fifth placed Corinthian Casuals going into the usually busy Christmas/New Year period.

Up to the Herne Bay game, Danny Haynes had been in a rich vein of form, scoring in eleven successive games.  Also Brandon Scott, Karl Dent, Lea Dawson, Jey Siva, Ben Mundele have all played out of their skins during this run but the team as a whole looks very together and in their last completed game against Godalming on the 4th December played extremely well.

Our opponents on Saturday, East Grinstead Town come into the game, 20th in the table, four points ahead of Chatham Town who are in the bottom three.  Matt Longhurst’s side started the season with 5 straight league defeats but have steadied well since then with away form being decent with 5 wins on their travels including a victory at leaders Dorking Wanderers and a win at South Park amongst them.  Home form hasn’t been quite as good and lost their last game at home 1-3 to Lewes on Saturday and have won just twice at home.

Marcus Elliott and Tashi Kwaiye are the men to watch with thirteen and nine goals this season respectively.   East Grinstead Town are a relatively new team to the Isthmian set up having spent most of their existence in the Sussex League and after finishing second in 2013-14 were accepted into the Ryman South for 2014-15 where they have remained, with last season finishing 20th.

This will be the first league meeting between the sides and the clubs have only met once competitively and that was last season in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round when the Wasps won 3-2 at Hayes Lane with Dane Moore and James Duckworth scoring for Cray that day.

Games at Hayes Lane are always exciting and with this being the last game before Christmas why not forget the shopping for a couple of hours and come and watch what should be a great game of football.

Admission prices are £10.00 adults, £4.00 concessions/U16s/students on presentation of card and match programme is £2.00.
