Dartford overcame Hungerford Town at Princes Park on Saturday, securing the three points in a 2-0 win thanks to a spectacular strike from their goalkeeper Deren Ibrahim.

The Darts started brightly and dominated much of the play but struggled to find the net against a stubborn Hungerford defence.

It took until the 79th minute when Ibrahim's remarkable free-kick from inside his own half bounced over the unfortunate George Legg to put the Darts ahead.

Ibrahim's outstanding effort sparked a strong finish for the Princes Park side, who sealed the victory on 88 minutes when Alex Brown showed great skill in controlling the ball before nestling his shot into the far corner.

The victory gave Dartford their second win in a week following what had been a tough opening to the campaign largely blighted by injuries and suspensions.

Speaking after the game, Dartford manager Tony Burman felt that Ibrahim's strike marked a change in fortune for his side this season.

He said: “It is just one of them things. It happens in football and I just reminded the guys that we have hit the post a few times this year and these things even themselves out.

“Unfortunately for their keeper, it was to our benefit.

News Shopper:

“It gave us that bit of luck that we could say we have not had this season. It came good for us today and I am pleased. It was followed up by a good goal from Alex who I think has been exceptional in midfield for us.”

Dartford's forwards have struggled to find the net in the opening stages of the season, but this is something that is not concerning Burman just yet.

“You worry when you're not creating and I felt that in the first half it did not quite come off for us,” the boss added.

“In the last third, we had quality but picked out the wrong ball – that happens. You want a lot of people scoring goals.

“I feel that the guys have responded in a great manner and with a great attitude with what has been going on off the field in respect to injuries. I am pleased for them.”

It has been a staggered start for the Darts who have only lost one of their first six, but Burman is not getting carried away.

He said: “The lads have done really well. There is a nice atmosphere, not only in the changing room but here at Princes Park.

“There is effort and a little bit of quality. I think everyone is pleased with what they are seeing at the moment but it is early days. You need to be consistent.”

Dartford will continue their National League South campaign on Saturday when they host Maidenhead United.
