Mark Goldberg said he felt “upset and demoralised” about Welling United’s dire start to the season.

And the Wings boss insisted changes were imminent after his side were beaten 1-0 at home to St Albans City.

The defeat was Welling’s fourth of the season and left the club second from bottom in the National League South on one point.

Goldberg said: “It’s very upsetting and demoralising and I feel bad for all of the supporters who want to give me a chance but are obviously finding it difficult.

“I obviously haven’t made the right decisions so far so I take responsibility.

“I don’t feel confident that we’re going to score goals and I need to put that right because I’ve made those decisions in the first place.

“I’m not prepared to make excuses anymore. I have to make some changes but it has to be done by balancing the books.”

The former Bromley manager also said that he will step aside if he feels it is in the best interests of the club.

“If I don’t get it right I will sit upstairs and appoint someone else – that’s an easy decision for me,” Goldberg added.

Meanwhile, Welling are hosting a family fun day on Bank Holiday Monday as part of their National League South clash with Chelmsford City.

Pre-match entertainment starts at noon with youngsters five-a-side, music and a host of social events.

At half-time there will be a penalty shoot-out and after the game, the refurbished Wings bar will host an after party with a live band and DJ.
