The Isthmian League South season began at Hayes Lane with a stirring late fight back from Cray earning a point in an first day thriller with Sittingbourne.

Cray started the game slowly but took the lead with a well taken goal in the 23rd minute.  Sid Njie teed up Joel Ledgister for a fine finish on his Wanderers league debut.

Sittingbourne levelled in the 38th minute when Steven Ita’s right wing corner was turned in by Remell Davies practically on the goalline.

Cray started the second half sloppily and found themselves three one down with twenty minutes to go.

Firstly in the 59th minute from another Ita corner, Jono Richardson’s header came back off the crossbar and Miles Cornwell bundled the rebound into the net.

Cornwell made it 3-1 in the 71st minute with a fine individual effort to leave Cray facing a mountain to climb.

However, an inspired substitution with Max Williams entering the game gave the Wands fresh impetus.  A minute from time Williams got on the end of an inviting Grant Basey cross to give Wands hope.

Then in the second minute of stoppage time, Paul Lorraine set up Sean Roberts who steered the ball home to give the Wands a somewhat fortuitous point.
