Bromley boss Neil Smith is delighted to be kicking off the 2016/17 National League campaign with a home fixture against Tranmere Rovers.

Rovers narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season and are one of the favourites to bag promotion this year.

Smith said: “It’s fantastic to have a club of the stature of Tranmere coming to Bromley on the first day.

“They will be one of the favourites to go up I imagine and to have a big club first up is great.

“They’ve got fantastic support and with the expectation of a new season I’m sure both sets of fans with really turn up and be in fine voice.

“All the boys have been talking about the fixtures and the different trips and getting very excited – they can taste the new season now and preparations are building nicely.”

Smith signed Joe Howe from National League South side Ebbsfleet United in June and landed deals to bring winger David Martin and forward George Porter to the club last week.

The Bromley boss believes all three signings can make an impact this season.

“David [Martin] is an experienced player who I believe can make a real difference for us.

“George [Porter] is a hungry, hungry kid. Perhaps he has lost his way a little recently but he’s a determined guy and I’m sure he will get back to where he wants to be.

“At Fleet Joe Howe was a really established player. I wanted to strengthen our options in the right-back area and he fit the bill perfectly.

“He’s at a good age and he likes to get forward as well as being very solid at the back.”
