Long Lane U14s manager Chris Wretham says he is “incredible proud” after his side bagged the treble this season.

The team won the Kent County Cup, the Kent Girls and Ladies Football League Cup and the KGLFL League in a memorable campaign.

Long Lane have only been beaten once in the league in over two season and Wretham insists he knew the team was capable of achieving the treble.

He said: “I’m unbelievably proud of the team. They have been fantastic all season.

“I always knew the girls could do it – to win the treble is certainly not easy but they are a fantastic group.

“They wear their hearts on their sleeves and have a great mentality.”

After a superb run Long Lane, who play at Kidbrooke Playing Fields, Blackheath, now have their sights set on the Aces National Football tournament.

The competition, which is held at the Judgemeadow Community College in Leicester, will bring together the best teams from across the country.

But despite the fierce competition, Wretham is confident his side will be able to rise to the occasion.

“We are off to the Nationals in July which will be very exciting,” the coach and manager said.

“I think we are more than capable of going there and putting in a big performance.

“We are going back to win it, the girls are up for it and didn’t want the season to end so I agreed to take them there because they are a joy to coach.

“There will be some very good sides in action but we know how good we are.”

Due to Long Lane’s superb season, the Charlton Academy are showing interest in several of their players.

Wretham admits a number of girls may join the Addicks this summer and says it is a proud moment for him as a coach.

He added: “Charlton take on a lot of our girls. Three players could leave for the club this summer which is hard for us.

“They need to go on and develop and obviously for us it is a proud moment when they do.

“There’s probably nine or 10 girls who could quite easily be playing for Charlton.

“The club is thriving at the moment – we are trying to improve girls’ football and we are happy with the progress.”
