Having given supporters hope of an escape, Welling United took it away with a meek capitulation at home to basement club Kidderminster Harriers.

Despite taking an early lead they failed to take a grip on the game and the two late goals they conceded condemned them to the defeat that all but condemned them to relegation.

They were hampered by losing Scott Kashket, recalled from his loan by Leyton Orient, with Michael Bakare still suspended and and Sahr Kabba injured. That was no excuse for an all round disappointing performance.

In the opening minutes, James McQuilkin curled well wide for the Harriers before Kadell Daniel was off target at the other end.

After seven minutes, Welling broke the deadlock when emergency right back Ian Gayle crossed, Reece Harris headed back into the area, Adeoye Yusuff knocked down and Daniel fired home.

Ousmane Fane had a free kick beaten out by Marek Rodak before Welling missed an opportunity to double their lead.

Harris' corner was delivered to the far post where Kevin Lokko met it with a towering header that flew over the bar.

After that, Welling chances became fewer and further apart as Kidderminster enjoyed plenty of possession.

Michael Chambers made a brilliant tackle to stop Ben Whitfield who looked to be in on goal before Welling created a rare opportunity.

Trickery by Luke Wanadio allowed him to find Nortei Nortey in the penalty area. His clever dummy gave him room to shoot, but he was unable to keep his effort under the bar.

Lewis Kinsella crossed for Whitfield but he headed wide. Whitfield then tried his luck from 25 yards but Rodak made a comfortable diving save.

McQuilkin then hit a long distance shot with swerve that Rodak had to watch to save.

Elton Ngwatala shot high and wide for Kidderminster before Welling's Sam Corne created a chance from nothing but fired wide from twenty yards just before the break.

Sadly for Welling, they failed to come out with increased energy in the second half and they spent a lot of time on the back foot.

Kelvin Langmeade came close for the visitors but they didn't create too much despite continuing to enjoy a greater share of the ball.

Victor Caicedo came on for Yusuff for his Welling debut in the 63rd minute and he created an opening of his own when blocking a clearance before shooting wide.

Lokko again headed over as Welling looked to have weathered the storm but that proved not to be the case when Kidderminster equalised with eight minutes remaining.

Substitute Omari Patrick found space down the right hand side. Although Rodak was able to keep his shot out, he could only push it into the path of Langmeade who made no mistake from close range.

Three minutes later, Caicedo had a shot blocked enabling the Harriers to break. Whitfield crossed and McQuilkin headed home.

Demoralised Welling were unable to create a further chance and Rodak had to make an injury time save from Zaine Francis-Angol..
