Despite a further shortage of players, Welling rewarded their travelling supporters claiming a well deserved three points.

Injuries to Sahr Kabba and Ibrahim Kargbo left Welling shuffling their pack once again.

Despite their threadbare squad, they were first to create an opening when Michael Chambers headed over.

Jeff Hughes then had a shot beaten out by returning goalkeeper Marek Rodak but James Norwood, following up, was unable to find the angle to beat the Wings' keeper.

Sam Corne tried his luck for Welling but fired over.

Another Welling foray involving Corne and Joey Taylor ended when Scott Kashket found room for a fierce drive from a tight angle that was kept out at the expense of a corner by Scott Davies.

Jake Kirby thought he had put Tranmere ahead with a close range header but Marek recovered to make a fantastic save.

After 19 minutes, the hosts went ahead when a near post cross was volleyed over Rodak by Lee Vaughan.

Within two minutes, Welling were level. Their attack straight from kick off was halted by a foul. Reece Harris found Ian Gayle, and although his initial header came back off a defender he followed up to side foot home.

Vaughan than tested Rodak again at the near post before the goalkeeper, back from international duty, made a comfortable catch from Michael Ihiekwe.

Kadell Daniel fired wide from a free kick before Matt Hill was off target from a tight angle.

Reece Harris had a free kick deflected off the top of the wall but Scott Kashket could not get a clean enough contact to beat Davies.

Rodak made another decent save from James Norwood before the cumbersome Steve McNulty made a needless foul on Kashket.

McNulty then failed to head clear but Daniel volleyed wide.

After the break Harris again tested Davies from long range before Tranmere came close when Rodak got caught out of position. Gary Taylor-Fletcher floated a header towards goal but Barney Williams got back to scramble off the line.

Corne was again off target following more clever play from Daniel.

Kirby had another good opportunity for Tranmere but fired straight at Rodak before Welling went ahead. A good passing move put Nortei Nortey away and he rounded Davies before passing unselfishly to Daniel who side footed ecstatically into the empty net.

Once again, Kirby had an opportunity but volleyed wide before Welling had a great chance to put the game to bed. Nortey was again the architect with a run that made space for Kashket, but he was unable to finish.

James Norwood almost saved a point with a drive that came back off the post but his next effort from outside the area was very ambitious and was easily saved.

There was no further danger for Welling and they looked more like adding a third. Although it may not be enough, they head into their final four games with extra confidence.
