Against the odds, Welling battled their way to a hard earned point at promotion chasing Eastleigh.

After three games unchanged, Welling made several changes, most enforced. as they looked to change their fortunes.

Michael McEntegart came in to replace goalkeeper Marek Rodak who was away on international duty. Michael Chambers, Sam Corne, Sahr Kabba and Joey Taylor also started in a re-vamped side both in terms of personnel and formation

Chances were few and far in the early exchanges with Welling looking marginally the better team.

Reece Harris curled a free kick over the wall but also over the bar.

Corne then fired over from 25 yards as Welling attempted to make their mark.

Any chance of them causing a shock became even harder on the half hour mark when Michael Bakare was sent off for a perceived two footed tackle on Dan Harding. The Eastleigh player made a meal of the tackle when rolling around when bareley hit but then took a throw before he had been permitted to come back on again.

Harding was again involved in unsavoury action when squaring up to Kabba soon after but got away with a scolding from an inexperienced referee.

McEntegart was called into action for the first time of the game, ten minutes before the break, when tipping over Josh Payne's shot from well outside the area.

Yemi Obudabe was then unable to find the target with a header from the corner at the far post.

Despite being down to ten, Welling again caused problems before the break when Kabba held play up superbly despite being heavily outnumbered before. He awaited company before he laid back to Harris whose shot from twenty yards flew just wide.

Neither sides made changes at the break but it was the hosts that came out the stronger for the second period.

McEntegart made a good save from Obudabe as Eastleigh tried to lift the pace.

Will Evans tried his luck from deep but was off target then Jai Reason was wild from well out.

Again McEntagart did well to claim a dangerous low cross despite a goalbound a goal-bound touch from Odubade.

Matt Tubbs was next to be thwarted when McEntegart kept his near post flick out.

Kabba then had a shot blocked for Welling before Reason did likewise at the other end.

Jack Midson then cut in from the wing before finding Lee Cook but he failed to hit the target from a good position.

Incredibly, Eastleigh missed the opportunity to break the deadlock soon after when Odubade's flick found Midson but from a yard out, his shot came back off the bar.

Substitute Matty Fanimo almost made an immediate impact when dribbling into the Welling pena;lty area but he delayed his shot and McEntegart gathered.

Reason again tried his luck from distance before Kevin Lokko headed wide in a rare Welling foray.

James Constable, another Spitfires substitute, had a shot saved as Eastleigh searched for the winner.

Evans tried a chip from 20 yards then missed a great chance when firing over from a good position after being set up by Joe Partington.
