Bromley interim manager Neil Smith believes his side won’t lose their focus after beating Guiseley 2-0 to all but seal their place in next season’s National League.

After a goalless first half, substitute Bradley Goldberg came on to score both of Bromley’s goals within 20 minutes of his arrival.

The result leaves Bromley 11th in the table with nine games remaining and 19 points clear of relegation, but Smith is adamant his players won’t ease up having effectively staved of relegation in their maiden season at this level.

He explained: “We’ve said we have not achieved anything yet so we’re going to keep on going, there’s nine games to go we’re going to give every game our best shot.

“I’m not one to take my foot off the pedal, we’ll work as hard as we have.

“I’ve given them a two-week programme that we’re going to stick to and hopefully get as many wins as we can.”

Bromley fans were made to wait for the opening goal with Rohdell Gordon and Pierre Joseph-Dubois both missing gilt-edged chances before Goldberg struck the opener on 70 minutes.

Though having seen a number of second half chances go amiss, Smith was never in doubt Bromley would eventually get the lead that their dominant performance so thoroughly deserved. He added: “We knew we had to be patient. They’re a team that is solid and hard to break down.

“They drew 2-2 at Tranmere so we knew it was going to be a difficult game and we had to be patient.

“Moses [Emmanuel] gave me everything he had and bringing on the fresh legs I think was the deciding factor, and obviously it was because Bradley goes up and scores two goals.”

Smith reserved special praise for Goldberg, who he said has continued to play well despite the difficult situation of seeing his father Mark Goldberg recently axed as Bromley manager.

He said: “Obviously Brad came on and took both his goals fantastically and I’m really pleased for him.

“It’s been a difficult situation, he’s got his head down, he’s worked hard, extra training afterwards and stuff like that and he’s got his rewards today.

“I’m really, really proud of him.”

Goldberg’s brace meant Bromley extended their unbeaten run to six games and with each win that comes his way, Smith’s record as interim manager becomes all the more impressive.

Since taking the helm he has overseen five wins in eight matches, but he wouldn’t be drawn on thoughts of a potential managerial role, insisting his primary concern is purely to perform until the end of the season. He said: “One game at a time. They asked me to look after the team while they do what they do and they make their decision.

“I’m enjoying it but my whole focus is on winning as many games for Bromley football club and we’ll see at the end of the season what happens.

“I’m not going to say anything now, I’m interim boss and I’ll keep that until it changes.”
