Cray moved up into fourth place and back into the playoff places after a devastating attacking display saw the Wands hit Soham Town Rangers for six on Sunday afternoon at Hayes Lane.

It took Cray only four minutes to take the lead when Jacob Erskine was played through by Michael Frieter to stride on and confidently stroke the ball past Sam McDermid.

Four minutes later the Wands added a second when Frieter forced the ball over the line after Sean Roberts shot had been blocked.

Cray keeper Nick Blue had to make a couple of telling saves to keep the Wands ahead before James Duckworth made it 3-0 in the 37th minute with a confident finish from Karl Dent’s pass.

The Wands went further ahead in the 48th minute when Dent curled home a shot from the edge of the penalty area before Soham pulled a goal back through Ryan Sharman four minutes later.

Soham’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Robbie Mason was sent off just after the hour for a second booking before Cray snatched two goals in the last fifteen minutes.

Leigh Bremner notched the fifth goal in the 77th minute with a fine header from Jamie Mascoll’s excellent left wing cross before Mascoll completed the scoring two minutes later, tapping home from Ben Hunt’s layoff.

Cray are next in action on Tuesday, 15th March in a crunch match against second placed Thurrock at Hayes Lane.

Cray:   Blue, Osifuwa, Basey, Leader, Payne, Dawson (Capt.), Roberts, Dent (Mascoll), Erskine (Hunt), Duckworth (Bremner), Frieter: Subs:  McKinlay, Faulkner
