Adam Cunnington’s goal with fifteen minutes remaining extended Bromley’s unbeaten run to five games at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening against visitors Halifax Town.

The goal was no more than Bromley deserved, as they had dominated the game for almost the whole of the 90 minutes against a side hovering just above the relegation places.

The hosts should have opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Jack Holland’s cross was knocked down by Cunnington, only for Moses Emmanuel to side foot wide of an open goal; and four minutes later, Lee Minshull lifted Joe Anderson’s cross over the crossbar after the ball got stuck underneath the midfielder’s feet.

Emmanuel went close with a shot on the turn before Anderson’s well struck shot was held by goalkeeper, Sam Johnson; while Rohdell Gordon saw his effort blocked by a defender on the six yard box.

As the half came to an end, Pierre Joseph-Dubois’s 30-yard snapshot was just wide of the post.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first.

Joseph-Dubois laid the ball into the path of Minshull, who scuffed his shot wide when it seemed easier to hit the target; before Emmanuel picked out Joseph-Dubois, who was denied by a last ditch tackle from defender James Bolton.

Gordon went close with a shot on the turn, which had Johnson struggling to get across goal, before the goal that clinched the points.

Bradley Goldberg, who had replaced Emmanuel a few minutes earlier, did extremely well to hold off the challenge of three defenders before slipping the ball inside to the unmarked Cunnington, who thumped the ball home from around 12 yards in the 75th minute.

The home side had a scare five minutes later, as Hamza Bencherief’s shot on the turn came back off the post. That was Halifax’s first and only shot on target in the whole ninety minutes.

Bromley might have had a second goal in the closing stages, as substitute Louis Dennis – making a return after knee surgery, and his first appearance since November – saw his shot through a crowded penalty area saved by Johnson.

This victory lifted Bromley two places in the League table to 11th position, and pushed Halifax down to 20th, just one place outside the relegation zone.
