Bromley came from behind to record their first home League victory since 10th October, with a 2-1 win over Woking on Saturday afternoon, and thereby end a run of five successive defeats.

A much-improved performance saw Bromley boss the first half, taking advantage of the swirling windy conditions that were blowing the length of the pitch.

The hosts had the first chance of the match in the 3rd minute when Rohdell Gordon shot narrowly wide, but Bromley found themselves a goal behind three minutes later when Woking’s leading scorer, John Goddard, swept home from close range Joseph Quigley’s headed knock down.

Bromley responded and one minute later Gordon was denied by Woking’s goalkeeper, Jake Cole, who blocked the newcomer’s shot with his legs, after he had been put through on goal.

Cole was in action again shortly afterwards, when he pushed around the post Lee Minshull’s well struck shot and, from the resultant corner, Joe Anderson saw his in swinging kick bounce off the top of the crossbar.

The home side deservedly levelled the scores in the 24th minute from the penalty spot, after Cameron Norman had needlessly bundled Adam Coombes over in the six yard box.

Moses Emmanuel stepped up to end his goal drought and hammer home the penalty for his first goal of 2016.

Emmanuel was denied by Cole in the 28th minute when the goalkeeper made a great save at the foot of the post, following good work and a cross from Anderson, before Bromley went ahead in the 30th minute.

Emmanuel rode a challenge before slipping the ball wide to Adam Cunnington, which the Bromley striker finished off in style with a firm shot across the goalkeeper and into the net.

Woking might have squared things up one minute later, when Quigley fastened onto a through ball to chip the advancing Julian, only to see his effort scrape the crossbar.

Anderson should have at least hit the target with seven minutes of the half remaining, when Emmanuel set up the full back but he blasted over with only Cole to beat.

The Woking goalkeeper denied Emmanuel again as half time approached, when he just got his fingertips to the strikers chip into the top corner.

The second period was an end to end affair, as the visitors enjoyed much more of the exchanges, whilst Bromley found it more difficult kicking against the wind.

Alan Julian, the Bromley goalkeeper who had had very little to do in the first forty five minutes, did well to beat away Quigley’s close range shot early in the half; and again was on hand to spread himself well to block Kieron Murtagh’s effort, following a mistake by Rob Swaine.

Emmanuel was denied once more by Cole, when the striker was put through on goal by Minshull’s pass, but the goalkeeper was equal to Emmanuel’s strike palming away in mid-air.

With three minutes remaining, Goddard might have equalised when he was allowed to run with the ball, before shooting from the edge of the area but Julian palmed away his volley at full stretch, and Swaine was on hand to block the follow up shot from Murtagh.

Bradley Goldberg had a shot saved in added time, as Bromley held on to record their first victory since 28 December when they overcame Dover Athletic at the Crabble Ground.
