Under new management, Welling earned a well deserved point that kept them in touch with the clubs above the relegation zone.

Dean Frost's first starting line up included new loanees Noah Chesmain and midfielder James Ferry.

Sahr Kabba created an early opportunity for himself but Sam Johnson got down to save by the post.

Kadell Daniel then burst through but was crowded out in the area.

Richard Peniket had the hosts first effort but his header lacked the power to bother Marek Rodak in the Welling goal.

Jordan Burrow then burst clear down the inside right channel but Barney Williams read the situation well and hacked away with Zach Fagan struggling to get back.

Nicky Wroe's corner found Jordan Burrow, but he headed straight at Rodak. Unfortunately for Welling, Fagan was unable to continue and was replaced by Nortei Nortey.

Wroe then missed a great chance when Rodak punched a Kevin Roberts cross straight to him but his first time effort flew over the empty net.

Harry Lee, captaining Welling for the first time, tested Johnson with a low effort.

Rodak then made a brilliant save blocking from Peniket at point blank range before James Bolton's ambitious effort flew well wide.

Having conceded a corner approaching half time, Welling defended it well and broke quickly with a three on two, but the crucial pass was played too wide and the two teams went into the break level.

After the interval, Welling came out flying and the hosts were indebted to Johnson for an incredible double save from Daniel and Kabba.

Connor Hughes fired over for the Shaymen but Welling continued to press.

Against the run of play, Halifax went ahead. Hughes' shot from 20 yards was skidded off the wet surface and Rodak could only push it out to Kingsley James and he bundled it home.

Ferry curled one over for Welling as they continued to enjoy the greater share of the possession without creating clear cut chances.

Forced into defending deeper and deeper, and only looking to catch Welling on the break, Halifax invited Welling to shoot and Kadell Daniel obliged with an equaliser courtesy of a superb 20 yard shot into the top corner for Welling's first ever goal at the Shay Stadium.

Jim Harvey, Halifax manager, made a change in the hope of claiming a late winner but although they won a couple of corners, only a long range Bolton shot, claimed comfortably by Rodak, threatened the Welling goal.

The Wings travel to Braintree Town on Tuesday and will look to build upon their impressive performance.
