A Lee Vaughan goal early in the second half was enough for Tranmere Rovers to complete a league double over Bromley at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Having outclassed Bromley in October on Merseyside with a comprehensive 4-0 victory, it was much the same in this game as the visitors outplayed their hosts throughout.

Tranmere’s intentions were apparent from the start as Adam Mekki flashed a free-kick just wide of the post in the 2nd minute.

Jay Harris was denied by a first class save from Alan Julian, and the goalkeeper blocked a rasping shot from Lois Maynard before Harris volleyed just wide of the post following a poor headed defensive clearance.

Julian was again in action minutes later when he brilliantly tipped around James Norwood’s header from a free-kick.

Bromley’s first serious threat on the Tranmere goal came in the 31st minute when Jack Holland set up Moses Emmanuel, but Bromley’s leading scorer fired his shot wide.

Emmanuel had a second chance minutes later when he fastened on to Paul Rodger’s pass to beat his marker, but this time his attempted chip was blocked by a recovering defender.

The visitors opened the second period strongly with Holland heading off the line and Julian saving at the foot of the post, before they opened the scoring in the 54th minute.

A poor challenge by Bradley Goldberg allowed Mekki to slip the ball to Vaughan who cracked a low right footed shot from the edge of the area into the far corner of the net.

Rovers could have added a second minutes later when a looping 25-yard striker flew just over the bar.

Bromley, who have dropped to a mid-table position after a fine start to the campaign, enjoyed more of the play in the final 20 minutes without creating any real danger.

Substitute Alex Wall was denied when his fine free-kick was saved by stopper Scott Davies, before Ali Fuseini fired agonisingly wide of the upright with his first touch.

Both chances came close in the dying minutes, but the score stayed the same with Bromley going down to their first defeat in four league games.
