Tony Burman was disappointed Dartford did not put on a performance as they grabbed a last-gasp equaliser to draw 1-1 with Chelmsford City at Princes Park on Saturday.

The Darts started the first-half brightly, but were unable to turn their possession into goals with a lack of firepower up front.

Chelmsford punished the home side ten minutes before the end, when Billy Bricknell rose highest and headed past Deren Ibrahim.

Dartford pushed for an equaliser and got their reward when substitute Tom Bradbrook nodded a Ryan Hayes cross past Chelmsford goalkeeper Tim Brown four minutes into added time.

However, Burman could not hide his disappointment after dropping two points at home: “I think when you are playing at home, you want to take the three points.

“We have got one and we are a bit fortunate to get that at the death. We are disappointed to drop two points in a home fixture.”

The Dartford manager acknowledged that Chelmsford approached the game defensively, but felt his side did not do enough to counter that.

He said: “Teams are coming here and doing that against us.

“They are playing very deep and we have got to break that down. I do not think that we broke them down well enough in the final third.

“They get bodies behind the ball, which is similar to what we do when we play away from home and we need to open defences up. I do not think we did that enough.”

Burman was positive about his side’s attitude after going a goal behind, but admitted they were unable to create the chances to win the fixture.

“They have got a never say die attitude which is a plus for us,” Burman added.

“It has pulled us back into games which have looked like we are going to lose, but in the overall performance today, it just did not quite work out.

“We had the work rate but we did not have the little bit of intelligence to open a team up which is what we needed.

“I think in all fairness, we probably gave Chelmsford a little too much respect.”
