Ahead of Welling United's upcoming F.A. Cup tie they chose to play a weakened side at Guiseley and paid the price.

Two goals from Bury loanee Anthony Dudley settled the match in which a full strength Welling team might have done better.

Either side could have scored in the first ten minutes. Adam Boyes flicked a Danny Lowe cross wide in the opening exchanges.

At the other end Reece Harris fired over from Afolabi Obafemi's square pass.

Michael Bakare then had a shot cleared off the line by Rob Atkinson, with more than a suggestion of handball, before the hosts went ahead.

Debutant Anthony Dudley was given all the room he needed to slot home.

An Abofemi free kick was saved easily by Steve Drench as the Guiseley defence worked hard to keep Welling to deep shots.

Another good Welling move gave Bakare a chance but his right foot effort was saved easily by Drench.

Adam Boyes came close for the hosts before Wellard headed wide at the far post from Harry Lee's cross.

Just before the break, the hosts scored the all important second. Gavin Rotherey's punt forward, combined with hesitant Welling defending, allowed Bury loanee Dudley to poke home his second.

Boyes might have added a third shortly after the interval but saw his effort deflected beyond the far post.

Bakere fired over when well placed as Welling looked to reduce the deficit.

He then shot narrowly wide as Welling continued to enjoy most of the possession while creating little.

However they could could have gone further behind on the break but Tom King made a great save from Boyes.

King made another save from Boyes from a close range header before a midfield fracas took place following a heavy challenge from Guiseley's Danny Boshell.

Travelling, and not seeing Welling's strongest team, was disappointing for the supporters but most will be appeased should the team defeat Barwell and progress further in the F.A. Cup.
