There is no doubt that Cray received the plum tie in the Kent Senior Cup 2nd Rd draw with the holders Charlton Athletic coming to Hayes Lane.  The tie is being played on Wednesday, 4th November with a 7.45 ko.

This will be a very big game for manager Tony Russell and here he explains why this tie means so much to him

"Wednesday's game will be a good chance for the players to take a break from the league and also gives me a chance to look at some of the boys that have not been getting the minutes they've craved. Obviously being a man who was born and raised in Charlton the game on a personal level will be a special occasion.

Managing a team against your boyhood club is probably as good as it gets. It will be good to see Jason Euell, a man who I've watched score goals for Charlton from the stands in the Premier league and Steve Avory who was extremely helpful to me and I will always be grateful for his time when we have spoken and met up.  Last season when I was at VCD, Steve was kind enough to loan us Mikheil Kennedy and Rhys Browne. Having them players not only helped the team at the time but it was also on a personal level fantastic to work with players of that level of ability and watching Mikheil go on to play for the first team was amazing to see.

My dad is coming to the game and it will be interesting to see who he cheers for being a life-long season ticket holder at Charlton, Mind you saying that I don't know how I'm going to react yet! I'm sure Charlton will bring a young side but it still promises to be a good game of football".

This would also be a big game for Grant Basey, if selected as he came through the Academy ranks to play for Charlton in the Championship for three seasons between 2007 and 2010.

A note that admission for this match is priced at £10.00 adults, £4.00 concessions & U16s, and students on presentation of card.
