Four goals from Xavier Vidal ensured Welling a relatively smooth passage into the first round of the F.A. Cup.

After an uneventful first 20 minutes, Welling were forced into making a change with Sahr Kabba, having already had a lengthy spot of treatment, withdrawn in favour of Michael Bakare.

Within two minutes, Welling were ahead for the first time in the tie. Ricky Wellard's ball inside the full back sent Xavier Vidal bursting into the box. Although his first effort was beaten out by Lamar Joseph-Johnson, he was first to the rebound and finished emphatically.

There could have been an almost immediate equaliser but an unmarked Sean Cronin headed Harry Agombar's corner.

Bakare then had a low shot saved by Joseph-Johnson.

Dumebi GB-Dumaka was a real handful up front but was a little too enthusiastic when bundling over Wings' keeper Michael McEntegart.

Reece Harris gave Grays a scare when Joseph-Johnson missed his cross entirely but breathed a sigh of relief that nobody was coming in at the far post to finish.

He had a further scare when going for a Barney Williams through ball that he was never going to reach but Bakare was forced out too wide to be able to get his lob under the bar.

Vidal had the last shot of the half but fired well over from Bakare's knock back.

Manager Mark Bentley replaced himself with Tommy Cummings at the break as Grays looked to change things.

Ben Jefford and Wellard combined well before the latter's perfect pass put Bakare clear but Joseph-Johnson was out quickly to block with his feet.

That could have proved costly as Roman Michael-Percil went down in the area and a penalty was awarded.

Captain Sean Cronin stepped up to take the kick but McEntegart guessed correctly and made a great save. However, Jefford's brave block on the follow up was outstanding.

Two minutes later, Welling scored the crucial second goal. Bakare's pace again caused problems before he crossed for Vidal to meet at the far post with a firm header.

The same combination made it three six minutes later when Bakare squared for Vidal and the attacking midfielder made no mistake from the edge of the area.

McEntegart made a good save from Agombar but Jay Leader headed over from the corner.

Joseph-Johnson saved from Bakare and Barney Williams before Vidal added his and Welling's fourth.

Leader's poor clearance went straight to him and he took his time before picking his spot inside the far post.

Bradley Fortune-Thomlinson burst through but shot wide as Grays looked for a consolation.

Kurtis Cumberbatch might have added a fifth in injury time but shot wide having been set up by Afolabi Obafemi.

Barwell beat Rushden and Diamonds in their replay and will host the Wings in the first round.
