Dartford manager Tony Burman felt his side’s 2-1 away victory over Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday was well-deserved and a step in the right direction.

Midfielder Barry Cogan prodded home Tom Gardiner’s cross to give Darts the lead after just ten minutes.

The hosts equalised shortly before half-time, before Elliot Bradbrook sealed the three points with a curled strike from inside the box on 53 minutes.

Stortford pressed for a second late on, but the visitors held firm to record only their second win in eight National League South fixtures.

“I am really pleased for the players and supporters who travelled to the game,” Burman said.

“Although our opponents had three good chances in the first ten minutes, I felt we recovered from that and controlled the game taking the lead from a well worked goal.

“It was disappointing to concede from a set-piece and I feel at that point we let our opponents back in the game.

“In the second half we created a number of good chances but their goalkeeper made some good saves.

“All in all I think we deserved the three points and it’s a step in the right direction.”

Bradbrook, who scored the winner in Hertfordshire, has enjoyed a productive season so far, netting five goals and creating a number of assists.

The 30-year-old added: “I thought it was a really good performance today and that we were really good value for the first goal.

“I didn’t think we deserved to go in at half-time level.

“After doing ahead again early in the second half we played some good football.

“We deserved the three points and hopefully now we can kick on from here.

“We’ve not played badly over the last few weeks but haven’t picked up the results we wanted – hopefully we can start stringing some wins together.”

Dartford, who after Saturday’s win sit in 12th position, host Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.
