A below par Welling United survived a scare against Grays on Sunday afternoon as an 84th minute equaliser from Sam Corne meant both Grays and Welling go into the hat for the First Round of the FA Cup.

Roman Michael-Percil went close early on but Michael McEntegart saved well, before Grays went close again as Dumaka shot straight at the Wings’ goalkeeper.

Welling were struggling to cope with the poor pitch but went close midway through the first half as Xavier Vidal hit a low right-footed free-kick just wide.

Back came Grays and they came close when Michael-Percil slipped in Joao Carlos but his delicate shot hit the post and went wide.

Grays carried the momentum with them into the second half and McEnegart was called into action again from a free-kick, this time the ‘keeper clawed away Kevin Lokko’s striker.

The Wings then almost grabbed the lead out of nowhere with a lovely move that saw Ricky Wellard release Reece Harris on the left.

Harris then produced a cross to pick out Sam Corne but the 19-year-old missed when looking certain to tap home.

This miss proved costly as Grays took the lead with twenty minutes remaining, with substitute Addai firing a low drive into the far corner for a super solo strike.

News Shopper:

Grays almost made it 2-0 moments later but Dumaka struck the bar.

The Wings drew level a minute later – Fagan and Wellard combined well and Corne found the bottom corner with a precise shot.

The visitors almost snatched a late winner but Barney Williams saw his shot tipped over the bar by Lamar Joseph-Johnson.

Park View Road will play host to the replay on Tuesday night.

Welling: McEntegart, Williams, Jefford, Corne, Chambers, Lokko (Bakara 75), Vidal, Harris, Obafemi (Fagan 46), Kabba, Wellard.
