Daryl McMahon believes his Ebbsfleet side will come back strong after their short break from action in the National League South.

The Fleet have emerged as early pace setters in the division after enjoying a wonderful start to the season, winning 10 of their 12 fixtures.

McMahon’s side entered their two-week break having been beaten twice in as many matches, however, and the Irish manager felt the interval came at a good time.

“We’ve had a terrific start to the season – I don’t think anyone could have conceived this start.

“But we got into some bad habits and this break had enabled us to break those, get back to basics and get back to the football which we enjoyed at the start of the season.

“We were playing Saturday and Tuesday and that’s hard on the players.

“Even on the training ground I can see the players are a little more refreshed now – that time off is important.

“But even though we lost two games, I felt the performances had been good and I’m in no doubt that if we continue playing like that results will come.”

Fleet will travel to Gosport Borough and Chelmsford City for their next two fixtures.

But when asked whether Ebbsfleet’s results against the two play-off challengers will be a measure of the talent in the dressing room, McMahon replied: “Yes and no.

“Look, we could win those two games and then lose our next five so I’m not looking at it like that.

“The next two games will be a big test, sure. But it’s such a long season and there’ll be plenty more highs and lows along the way.

“I’ve always said that there would be low points and challenges for the team.

“Gosport are a good side, with a good manager who knows the division well.

“It will be tough but we’re looking forward to it and are confident going into the game.”
