A goal by James Duckworth five minutes into injury time gave Cray a dramatic victory against Thamesmead Town on Tuesday evening which took the Wands four points clear at the top of the Isthmian League North table.

In a match between the top two teams it looked like the game was heading for stalemate as during the ninety minutes there were very few chances.

The best opportunity in the first half fell in stoppage time for Cray when from Grant Basey’s free kick Lewis Dark headed against his own crossbar.

Thamesmead had a great chance to take the lead when Tyrus Gordon-Young was put through but dragged his shot well wide.

Cray came close to scoring twice in the closing stages but were denied by ex-Wands keeper Andy Walker first through Mike Frieter and then Ray Powell.

However, five minutes into injury Cray took the lead with an excellent goal.  Lea Dawson played the ball to Freiter, who then centred to Powell, who then cut the ball back to Duckworth who strode on and hit a twenty yard strike which flew past Walker and into the net to win the game.
