Cray moved to the top of the Isthmian League North as two late goals saw off the spirited challenge of Great Wakering Rovers at Hayes Lane.

Cray who beat Phoenix Sports 5-0 on Tuesday night came close to scoring early on but it was the visitors who took the lead after 4 minutes.  Jay Nash picked up a loose ball, and fired home a fine shot from 20 yards.

On twenty five minutes Cray levelled the scores when Ben Payne’s accurate long pass found Andre McCollin who ran on into the area and as keeper Adam Seal advanced from goal, McCollin gently steered the ball under him and into the net.  This was McCollin’s tenth goal of the season.

The game was a lively encounter throughout and Jacob Cleaver hit the post twice for Great Wakering whilst Leigh Bremner came close for Cray on a couple of occasions.

Cray took the lead five minutes from time when Sean Roberts hit a tremendous drive from 20 yards which flew into the net.

With the game entering the third minute of stoppage time Cray made it three when Bremner was tripped inside the area and Grant Basey cooly slotted home from the penalty to send Cray top.
