As had been the case seven days earlier, Welling United's opposition were reduced to ten men yet the hosts were unable to take full advantage and had to settle for a point.

Last weekend, Welling had to rely on a late Sam Corne screamer to rescue a point against Tranmere Rovers. However, on Saturday they got off to an ideal start with an early goal but, again, ended up drawing 1-1

Manager Loui Fazakerley made two changes, bringing in Michael McEntegart in goal with Tom King dropping to the bench. A controversial suspension for Sahr Kabba meant a start for Afolabi Obafemi.

Both Welling and visitors Torquay United have had difficult weeks and it was the visitors who had the first chance with McEntegart getting down well to save from Louis Briscoe.

However, the Wings goalkeeper was alert to start the counter attack that resulted in the opening goal. Reece Harris found Obafemi and he set up George Porter. The Welling striker, still looking for his first Wings' goal was thwarted by an incredible save by Fabian Speiss, but Xavier Vidal was on the spot to bury the rebound.

Speiss made another good save from an Obafemi flick before Torquay levelled on 19 minutes. Daniel Butler slung in a free kick which evaded everyone and sneaked inside the far post.

Prior to the game restarting, Barney Williams replaced Harry Osborne who had limped off before the initial foul.

Porter appeared to have been fouled when the last man, but Angus MacDonald's strong tackle was deemed fair, but Torquay were reduced to ten men on the half hour.

Chasing a long ball, Abofemi was stopped by the onrushing Speiss who palmed away just before the two collided inches outside the penalty area. Referee Stephen Ross had no option but to dismiss him. Substitute goalkeeper Daniel Lavercombe was brought on for the sacrificed Malachi Lavelle-Moore.

Looking to try and take immediate advantage, another good move sent Corne free but his powerful drive went just over the angle of bar and post.

Alex Fisher sliced well wide before missing a great opportunity. Briscoe's clever flick opened up the Wings' defence but Fisher shot beyond the far post.

Shortly before the break, Porter broke through but clipped the bar with his effort.

Early in the second period, James Hurst broke away down the right but shot across the face of the goal.

Kevin Lokko missed a great chance for Welling when he evaded his marker from Vidal's free kick, but his side foot volley flew over.

Ricky Wellard came on for Harry Lee and, almost immediately, had an effort deflected wide.

Great defending by MacDonald thwarted Obafemi before Exodus Geohagan blocked another effort from the Welling striker.

Back came Torquay and McEntegart made a great save from Briscoe with Ben Jefford mopping up on the line.

Lavercombe made a great save from Porter and Wellard had a shout for a penalty with a shot blocked at close range.

Despite being one man short, Torquay still created openings and Nathan Smith shot wide when he should have done better.

Vidal fizzed a free kick over for Welling before Briscoe missed the opportunity to steal all three points in the closing minutes at the far post.

Welling United: McEntegart, Osborne (Williams 20), Jefford, Lee (Wellard 55), Chambers, Lokko (Adeyinka 79), Corne, Vidal, Obafemi, Porter, Harris. Unused substitutes: King, Fagan.
