Bromley’s first ever game in the top tier of non-league football ended with a well deserved 3-1 victory over Wrexham at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

The former Football League visitors had the better of the early exchanges and Wesley York forced a second minute save out of Alan Julian with a low drive, which the Ravens keeper held at the bottom of the post.

Bromley’s defence was opened up when York’s shot was deflected into the path of James Gray in front of an open goal, but the assistant referee’s flag saved the day.

It came as no real surprise on 22 minutes when Wrexham opened the scoring.

Dominic Vose’s low left wing cross was met at the near post by York, who deftly flicked the ball wide of Julian into the far corner.

But the lead did not last too long, as two minutes later Bromley were back on terms.

A Joe Anderson deep floated free-kick bounced past two defenders to allow Sean Francis, a new signing from Dover Athletic, to crash his effort into the net.

Bromley took the lead on 29 minutes.

Anthony Cook’s pass along the edge of the area just missed Bradley Goldberg to run through to Alex Wall, who placed his shot wide of Wrexham keeper Cameron Belford.

A snapshot from Wrexham’s Adriano Moke went just the wrong side of the post before the goal of the game came two minutes before the break.

Cook picked up possession deep inside his own half and then proceeded to run 50 yards, outpacing Adriano Moke before laying a pass off to Wall.

The burly striker then fed Moses Emmanuel to run onto and fire a firm strike from the edge of the box past a stranded Belford.

Bromley had two good opportunities to add to the scoreline in the opening five minutes of the second period with Goldberg missing both before Julian reacted smartly to tip over Connor Jenning’s long range effort.

The large travelling support had their hopes raised on 65 minutes when Vose was allowed a 40-yard run at goal before flashing his shot past the far post.

And ten minutes later, York blazed high and wide from a good position.

In the closing stages Bromley were denied a penalty as Jamal Fyfield clearly handled in the area before Ali Fuseini fired narrowly over the bar after chesting down a cross from the right.

Wrexham were denied twice by Julian, firstly blocking for a corner Jenning’s close range stab at the ball and then leaping across goal to palm away Joel Logan’s 18-yard volley.

The final chance fell to Bromley when, following a flowing movement, Anderson fired high and wide from just inside the area.
