Cray Wanderers achieved what seemed impossible just a few weeks ago by avoiding a second straight relegation by beating Tilbury at Hayes Lane.

Cray only needed three points to stay up following a remarkable run which now stretches to nine successive win since March 17th.

Cray went ahead in the twelfth minute when Cesc Fakinos’ free kick into the box fell to Chris Piper who scored with a composed finish.

Cray went 2-0 up on 41 minutes when Piper set up Alex Teniola who squeezed in a shot from a tight angle into the bottom corner of the net.

Tilbury pulled a goal back two minutes before the break when Neil Richmond bundled the ball home from close range.

Cray went further ahead on 74 minutes when Teniola beat the Tilbury offside trap and strode on and stroked the ball home for this seventh goal in five games.

In stoppage time Adrian Stone from the right of the area drilled a low shot into the net to complete the scoring.

Tilbury were then reduced to ten men when Richmond was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Cray make the long trip eastward to Dereham Town on Saturday safe in the knowledge relegation has been spared, a position that a few weeks ago seemed unlikely.
