League leaders Barnet showed their pedigree with a comfortable win leaving Welling United in real trouble in the relegation zone.

At Park View Road earlier in the season, Barnet nicked the three points with a late winner but they strolled to a straight-forward victory in the return fixture at The Hive

John Akinde and Michael Gash were a real handful for the Welling back three both with their movement and strength. At the other end, Bondz N'gala mopped up any high ball that Welling sent forward.

Curtis Weston fired over from 20 yards to give Welling an early warning after they struggled to get the ball out under pressure from Akinde.

Lee Cook then fired a free kick that was well kept out by Jonathan Henly but his save from Andy Yiadom's follow up was brilliant.

Another free kick, this time from Sam Togwell, drew another save from Henly before Barnet went ahead in the 16th minute.

Mauro Vilhete burst through down the right wing before lashing an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.

Five minutes later, Barnet added a second when Gash flicked on a long punt forward for Akinde to finish beyond a helpless Henly.

Things went from bad to worse six minutes before the break when Chris Bush's foul on Gash was penalised with a penalty and, somewhat surprisingly, a red card. As Bush trudged away down the pitch, Akinde converted.

Dominic Vose mustered a goal attempt, Welling's first, shortly before the break and Welling had a couple of corners but they went into the break three down.

Joey Taylor replaced Jason Williams for the start of the second period as Welling switched to a flat back four.

Vose came close to reducing the arrears with an arrowed free kick that went the wrong side of the post.

Jake Gallagher then hooked a shot into the arms of Graham Stack in the Barnet goal.

Both Akinde and Yiadom missed good chances before the hosts added a fourth and Welling were architects of their own downfall when a catalogue of errors allowed Gash to advance before slotting home past Henly.

Martin Allen made changes in both personnel and system and Barnet started to play a much shorter passing game.

Kieron St. Aimie then had a great opportunity to score a consolation goal when finding himself clean through but the Wings front man smashed his shot wide.

Vilhete shot over for Barnet and Vose did likewise for Welling before Gash again found his way through. This time, however, he was unable to beat Henly who made another fine save.

Substitute Rod Young was thwarted by a good save by Stack before Barnet added a very fortuitous fifth.

Luisma Villa's shot appeared to pose little threat before taking a huge deflection and flying into the unguarded side of the net.

Loui Fazakerley will have to pick his team up quickly ahead of next Saturday's home game with Grimsby Town.

Welling United: Henly, B. Williams, Bush, Gallagher (Fagan 82), Berry, Chambers, Corne, Vose, J. Williams (Taylor 45), St. Aimie, Harris (Young 76). Unused substitutes: McEntegart, Bassele.
